Posts: 5 | Hello. I recently found a Parker Brothers Damascus Barrel shotgun while cleaning out an attic of a relative. (he let me keep it) I have been doing some research over the last week or so and I am pretty happy with my find. This gun looks to be in pristine condition but I really don't know exactly what to look at when determining condition and how it relates to the value of this particular gun. I do know that the serial number is 125888..and this can be found in multiple places on the gun. It has a number '2' stamped inside..along with the letter 'G'..it is a 16 gauge..barrel length is 28 in..while total length is 44 in..the butt plate is original..and so is the other little plate. I will post some pics and would appreciate any input on exact value. Thanks in advance.

Location: WA/AK | Your gun is a GH-Grade if it has plain extractors or GHE-Grade if it has automatic ejectors. The GH-/GHE-Grade is also known as a Quality 2, hence the 2 on the watertable above the serial number.
Your best bet is to go to the Parker Gun Collectors Association web site --

First go to the left side of the screen and try all the various pics and read what they have to say. Then go to the discussion forum and post your pictures and questions. The PGCA has surviving records on your gun so you could order a research letter from them. 16-gauge Parker Bros. shotguns were regularly built on the number 0-frame (lighter) and the 1-frame (heavier), though other factors enter into weight as well as frame size. The frame size number will be stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug. There were 1394 Parker Bros. GH-/GHE-Grade 16-gauge guns built with 28-inch Damascus barrels.

Parkers are generally graded by the amount of case coloring remaining on the receiver, condition of the bluing on the barrels, condition of the screws and condition of the stocks. When held to those standards, the gun pictured would be very grade very low. It is hard to place a value on a gun like that but I would not pay more than about $250-$300 for the gun. It may well be worth more in parts, though.
It may be a good candidate for a restoration but the cost of a quality restoration would far excede the value gained.
Sorry to be the bearer of not so good news. You may be able to shoot the gunwith special low pressure ammo after a good Parker smith gives the OK that it is safe to shoot.

Posts: 5 | A5guy..I posted these same pictures on the Parker Brothers Forum and was told by many the gun was worth at least $2,000..the gun has NEVER been fired and was in a deep dark closet wrapped in a sheet for well over 50 years..maybe longer. I know the pics are not perfect but I don't know how you came up with a low grade rating on a gun never used. Maybe you are correct. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But $250??? I will probably bring to a gun dealer/ gun show just out of curiosity. It is tough when looking at pictures that really are not perfect. Have a great day.

Posts: 10510 | Perhaps the pictures are the problem. I see no case color on the receiver and two buggered screws on the bottom of the reciever. Good pictures are important when trying to get a evaluation over the net, of course. Did you post the same photos on the Parker ite? I am seeing a 50%, or less gun, but if it is near 100% and never fired, as you say, it would be worth thousands.
Take it to a gun shop and see what they offer you. Let us know how you come out.

Location: Trafalgar,IN. | I'm with A-5, although his opinion on value may be a good bit low IMO. However, poor pictures or no, that gun has very little case color left. There does seem to be some slight problem with a couple of screws, and,[this might be due to bad pic], the damascus finish could use some work. If that gun is unfired, it's certainly appears to have been handled a good bit for having never been used.
This is just my opinion, but I would think it would fall more in the $1,000.00. This based on the pics alone. Not knowing if it's still on face, bore condition, etc. Parker collectors surprise me at times,[most of the time actually], so I could be wrong, but I somewhat allowed for the 'Parker' factor.

Posts: 10510 | I bought a 20ga GHE in about 60% condition a few years ago for $275. I did finally sell that gun for a modest profit. That gun did not have Damascus barrels. At any rate, I just gave my opinion and if the gun has never been fired, my estimate was way off. It will be interesting to see what a gunshop offers him for a Damascus barreled gun.
